In the dark period of the Middle Ages an itinerant brotherhood wandered through the Occident, in order to build - wherever necessary - bridges that require neither nails, screws, nor any other joining elements. The "Bridge Brothers" (Frères Pontifes) passed on their knowledge and skills only within their secret fraternal society. Hardly any records exist. Only several hundred years later was Leonardo da Vinci successful in casting some light into their bridge building techniques.
With Zirkus Meer, an artist group for the very first time accomplished the feat to build a genuine bridge spanning over a distance of eight meters. Its simple and congenial construction opens up possibilities for an artistic theatrical performance. Pieces of wood and the acrobats grow into a sculpture, support each other and merge into one. The construction reveals itself as an impressive, meditative act. Bizarre and mysterious figures loom from the bridge and grow menacingly over this medieval work of construction.
