Der mathematische Name dieses Objekts, das im Wesentlichen aus zwei verschränkten Halbbögen besteht, lautet „Sphericon“, erfunden von Colin J. Roberts im Jahr 1970. In den darauf folgenden Jahren hat dieses Objekt, dessen Schwerpunkt beim Abrollen immer auf einer Ebene bleibt, viele Bildhauer und Mathematiker beschäftigt. In Europa sind wir die erste Gruppe, die diese von uns aus Holz gebaute Struktur in einer Aufführung verwendet.
Die Artistik mit dem Sphericon zeichnet sich dagegen dadurch aus, dass die körpereigene Drehachse im Raum nicht stabil bleibt sondern rotiert. Der Zugang zu diesem Ring erfordert tänzerische Annäherung statt Geradlinigkeit, sich fallen lassen und im Bewegungsfluss bleiben, statt punktueller statischer Kraftanstrengungen.
Diese tänzerisch akrobatische Begegnung zwischen Mensch und Rollkörper ist alles andere als geradlinig. Das in Schlangenlinien rollende Sphericon ist eine Erscheinung für sich. Das Stück das sich rund um dieses Objekt entwickelt hat ist mitreißend poetisch. Das Spiel mit der Gravitation erweckt sowohl kindliche als auch kosmische Assoziationen im Zuschauer.

This ring, which is basically constructed around two arcs, is named after Colin Roberts (1970). In the years following, this ring has inspired a number of artists, scientists, acrobats and dancers (Moses Pendleton of Momix). While moving, the centre of gravity does not move up and down, but remains on a constant level. Thus, the ring rolls almost frictionless. The movement with this object is somehow special, since the axis of rotation is moving in space. In Europe, we are the first performance group that has built, and is using, a wooden Sphericon in a show. This structure needs to be approached by a dancer like a surfboard by a surfer – they have to keep the flow of the movement alive.

ITALIANO – Sphericon / anello pendolare
Il nome matematico di questo oggetto, che in sostanza consiste di due semiarchi intrecciati, si chiama „sphericon“, inventato da Colin J. Roberts nell’anno 1970. Negli anni seguenti questa ruota ha ispirato molit artisti, scienziati, acrobati e danzatori (Moses Pendleton di Momix). Mentre si muove, il centro di gravità non va su e giù, ma resta su un livello costante. Quindi, la ruota si muove quasi senza frizione. Il movimento con questo oggetto è piuttosto particolare, in quanto l’asse della rotazione si muove nello spazio. Noi siamo il primo gruppo in Europa, che ha costruito e usa negli spettacoli uno sphericon di legno.

L’artista, mentre si avvicina a questa ruota, deve muoversi come un danzatore, per mantenere il movimento continuo.
